Symptoms of COPD

Shortness of breath is one of the main symptoms of COPD, affecting your ability to participate in normal activities.3

Exacerbations, also known as flare-ups, are a worsening of COPD symptoms (e.g. shortness of breath, cough, and excess mucus). Exacerbations are the leading cause of physician visits among patients with COPD and can lead to complications such as chest infections or hospitalization.2

Frequent coughing is also a symptom of COPD. You cough more to clear your lungs.2

Problems with daily activities is also a symptom of COPD. As a result, you become so short of breath that it limits your ability to exercise. Tasks that used to be routine are now harder to complete.2

People with COPD may not have all of these symptoms at once.
